  • Restoring 1965 Evinrude 9.5 hp

I recently acquired a 1965 9.5 hp Evinrude Sportwin (Thanks Buoy37!). It had not been run in about 2 years. I, so far have replaced the fuel line, regapped and cleaned the spark plugs. I got the lower unit off today after a lot of work and internet research. I also built a stand out of scrap wood I found in the shed... How's it look? My impeller came in this week, so I hope to replace that in the next few days (with the help of youtube and the internet of course). So far, I have learned a lot from this. Here are some pics of this beauty.

Look good so far. How far are you goin to take the restore? I would like to see that motor in original condiion. Paint, decals and alll (i.e. american restoration) But still sounds like fun!! Keep us posted. I am sure you can find some resources here for help.

At this point I am going to focus on getting it running again, but I am not sure how far I am going to take it. Original condition would definitely be awesome.

            Older motors are cool

I see a bunch of them every time I go over to stone and sons marine

They specialize in older motors by Johnson and evinrude..... And stock all the parts too

Keep that in mind if you are looking for a part or need help on the phone

              Looking good Mini-X!!!!!!

Don't forget about the fuel pump. It was leaking at the time I put her up.

Do you think a fuel pump rebuild is in order? I also found the cracks in the old fuel line that you were talking about.

Looking at a diagram, it might only need a filter screen and gasket. Take a look at 83, 84 and 85 on pages 12 and 13. It may have clogged up.

Ok, thank you! BTW, do you guys like my colorful ziptie on the fuel hose connector? The little clips were a pain to get back on.

I am at a complete standstill on this project... I can not, for the life of me, get the impeller off of the drive shaft! Do y'all have any suggestions? Thanks

Is it stuck on the shaft or is there a pin/key still holding it in place?

The key is still in the keyway, is it necessary to remove that before taking the impellor off? If so, what tool is needed to do this? ( this may be a stupid question, sorry)

We use a sawzaw when we cant get them off. Just becareful, and cut close to the shaft through the brass on the impeller. Then finish with a screw driver and hammer to split it and pry off.
