My boss O.K.'d my day off request and gave me a few choice spots to fish in the bayou. I new it would be windy, so my wife and I decided to take the jon boat and concentrate on the holes and shorelines of the bayou.
We fished from the upside down boat up to the mouth of Pleasant. The bubble barrier wall generated some nice specks right away. Two bends up from that was an area full of "schoolie" specks and sand trout. My goal for the day was to convince my wife to put the cork away and try throwing plastic jerk baits. This hole was the perfect spot for her to give it a try. She agreed and after a few missed hooksets, she got it down pat. We sat at that spot for a good 30 minutes catching and releasing trout.
We decided to hit the area of the Chocolate/Pleasant Bayou exchange before we called it a day. She was still working the jig with a GULP shrimp when she set the hook on her first flounder. I unhooked it and handed it to her so she could examine it for a few seconds and release it. She hooked a second, larger flounder and as soon as it got to the surface, the hook was spit out. I am fishing the same area and still haven't hooked squat. She proceeds to hook a third flounder. I netted it for her and this time she removes the hook and the release.
Right now the bayou is full of life. I can't wait until the first couple of cold fronts to pass through and stack the bayou's warm muddy holes with specks.
