Late evening FUN!!
Wife and I got a late evening fish trip in at 43Buoy. Ladyfish, 5 cull trout, and 1 nasty red @ 25". She had a tangled line and I had just cast out and this red took over. I handed her the rod and she cursed but the fight was on for her. I laughed until I cried but she got it in and we landed it. I was fixin to toss it over but she had the idea to fry it tomorrow for an elderly couple next door,James and Beverly who claim they love fried Redfish. I lost out and neither of us could care less about tablefare redfish. I never have unless they are skillet size.(illegal) So i'll be fryin tomorrow. The bugs were terrible the closer it got to sundown. Water was perfect, Lutes supplied the baits, and she noticed something about fishing. She swears and Im starting to agree with her but will keep testing until I know for sure. When a towboat and barges come by have your line in the water. That's exactly when the red was caught this evening. Also when other boats go by wide open it happens. My assumption is it chases the fish out of the deeper channel water up into the flats. Strange but she may be on to something.

When I fish with live baiters, sometimes I've noticed that when I pull up on SOME of the reefs I fish regularly (4'-6'), very often the redfish turn on soon afterward for a time and then the bite stops. So I've actually fired up the engine, made a BIG loop and ran back to the same spot just to have them turn on again.....go figure. I think the prop stirs up the bottom and exposes all those critters they like.....of course you gotta forget about catching a trout in that area now.Captain, Galveston County Blue Team Fish Killers
