I'm new to the area and have heard and read quite a bit about chocolate bayou. Not looking for anyone to give up their honey holes, was just wanting some navigation input like what to watch for and average depths. We'll be launching at the 2004 bridge.

Get a map and go very slow while you're figuring it out. The areas between the buoys are deep of course but the reefs can start within feet of the buoys so you have to be careful. I've been fishing it for over 10 years and I try and take the same routes over and over and I still run into stuff from time to time. Good luck

What they have said is good advice, get a map, look at Google earth & slow down when you get out of the channel. (until you know some routes) there is both hard sand & soft mud along the shorelines, make long wades to learn them. One good bonus ! It is a Wildlife refuge on the west side & Chem Co. Land on the east side, so there will never be any development. (There are No Fish in Chocolate either) so there will never be any development. come join the nuts who are gluttons for punishmen, get sunburned, skeeter bit,and catch some World class hard heads!
