Busted out from work and got to the island in time to fish forty five minutes on Tuesday afternoon. Since I was short on time I went from the Sea Isle Marina to Sunset Cove. Hooked up pretty quick with a little rat red and managed to find another before dark. hat was about it. Saw one other boat who boxed a nice fish, too dark to really see what it was.
Hit the water, or should I say FOG, around 7:00ish this morning. I wanted to run back to Greens which is a haul from Sea Isle in pea soup. Glad I have good electronics! Got to the back of he lake where the bayou runs in and was greeted by five other boats a five million blood drinking mosquitos. Put the spray on and moved past the deep water bayou and into the real skinny stuff to see if I could locate some reds. I did see a couple small ones but couldn't get any to grab my tout. Fished back there for forty five minutes or so then moved back out to the lake where the tide was pulling out pretty good water from a marsh drain. Fished this for twenty minutes hoping to catch a flattie who forgot to make the run...no luck. Moved from here to Karankawa...tried a hole there I like...no fish. Moved through the cut into the old barge canal...no fish. Moved from there to a shell bed along the intercoastal...pretty water, no fish. Went just east of the mouth of Chocolate to fish those spoil banks...nothing doing.
All morning and a big skunk BUT I have not been on the bay for a couple of months now so just getting back out there, FLAT water, fog and all was the therapy I needed.
Wife bought me a trip with the Pimp for Christmas so pretty jazzed about that...think we are on for the 8th. Need to learn some of those winter spots!
