This past weekend was refreshing: the weather was nice, the fishing was good, and the company was great. The fishing was great but the catching was only good. The day was a marathon of sorts. We were on the water before sunup and off after dark. We also covered 12+ miles of water but not without reason. It seemed like everywhere we went we saw fish and lots of them. We saw backing redfish from the time we started fishing right up til the time we called it quits due to the extremely low water levels.
We ended the day with 12 reds up to 28.5″. We had plenty of shots at fish all day long and managed to lose a handful as well. We caught all of our fish on 3″ Gulp shrimp. We had to make long casts about the max of our casting abilities to prevent from spooking fish. We had to cast past the fish in the direction it was moving and wait for it to get close and slowly bump the lure off the bottom to entice a bite.
