Jumped in the 71 degree water a little after 6:15am for our first wade at our usual tourney spot. The water was pretty low and going out fast. Bait was scarce, but we worked it hard until about 8:30 and only caught nice trout to 5lbs and a few undersize reds. Albert had one big red break the back hook off of a she dog and she got away.
Hit spot 2 and the water was really low. There was lots of bait, but we could only catch trout there too. Moved on and caught more trout. Moved again and caught more trout.
Pulled up at another spot to take a look and saw a ton of bait. Something blasted some bait close to us, so I tied on a topwater and chunked it. A BIG red crushed it and pulled out about 40 feet of line before the leader broke......oops, drag a little tight I guess. We pulled down away from the bait and jumped in again. I made a power wade toward the bait and Albert went shallow. I found the school of big reds 3 times, but couldn't get them to hit anything. Albert also saw some good reds shallow but couldn't get them to feed. We caught a few more undersize reds, but no keepers.
Hit our last spot of the day and started catching 3-4 lb trout right off the bat, but couldn't find any reds, so we headed in to clean up. It was beautiful out there today and can't wait to get back out there again Tuesday. If it had been a trout tournament we would have weighed in over 15lbs.
Go Texans!
These were the only pics we took. We weren't close enough to the boat to get the camera for the rest of em.
