Was up for 24 hours from Thursday to Friday working. Planned to wake up early today to go fishing, but my body had other ideas. Slept til 11 and decided to head down for some quick fishing anyway.
The beachfront looked good so stopped off by the old delanera park and made one cast with the castnet and caught over a dozen finger mullet.
Headed to the beachfront and soak some bait and relax. Got bored and let the mullet go. Decided to go wade some marsh for a bit and head home.
Slowy worked way up a main channel in some marsh. Caught one rat red. Came to a drain with two guts coming out. Worked way up the skinnier gut and caught another rat red.
Started heading back to the truck and stopped by the mouth of the drain and threw up the gut on the outgoing tide. Immediately hooked another rat red. Two casts later another one. Ended up catching 8 rat reds (around 16-18) one dink trout, a little flounder, lost something that was keeper sized and then.
Then decided to leave and make one last cast. I casted let it just sit on bottom for a good 10 seconds before jigging it. Jigged it once and let it sit for 5 seconds. It felt like it was in the mud, then bam had something BIG on. After a few minutes I decided it was a stingray and was a little nervous about unhooking a stingray while wade fishing with only a little pair of pliers. I was in about calf high water, it was only two feet in front of me and I still couldn't get it off the bottom.
Then holy crap, it was a flounder. This was BY FAR the biggest flounder I had ever seen. I really wish I had a water proof camera. I almost don't even believe how big it was. In fact after just looking at the state record while writing this, it was actuallly longer but not sure of the weight. I didn't pick it all the way up.
