OK Jerm the braid is a no no... I used it 1 time and I did like it... BUT mono is the only way to go... Sorry for the bad luck of your boyscout knot coming untied... That is just 1 to many falure points for me to stand... LOL Better luck next time homey... LMAO...

I will be back out there Sunday morning with the braid tied straight to the topwater. If that does not work I will go back to the truck and get my pole rigged with mono.

Tops and Braid

I have tried the braid with tops and havent had the best of success. I love my braid for plastics because the feel is unmatched but the hook up ratio on braid wasnt very good w/ tops. I dont think there is enough stretch in the line for them to really hook themselves. I use a 100% flourocarbon line because i feels its a good medium between the braid and straight mono. Seems to work very well for me. I think it also gives it a better action than the PP or something similar.

Anyways, good job on being out there and fishing. I wish i could say the same. Damn work in the NE sucks. Oh well, Ill be down for a 1.5 weeks at labor day.

I've moved to all flouro or braid, don't think I even have mono on any of my "use all the time" set-ups.

Tops and staight briad can be a pain, a flouro leader is best.
