  • Skinny marsh 7/31

Well, friday was a good day for me. Been looking for the last few months for the right used flats boat and finally found one. I spent Saturday morning checking over everything on my new to me, but slightly used Mitzi Skiff before heading to West Bay for the shake down run. Made a few calls and found a victim to come along for the test run, Fishinaddiction, Jonathon Griffin said he would come along.

We did much more running around and looking than fishing, as I was trying to figure out what the boat would run and float in. Tides were very low for summer, and the West wind didn't help with the water clarity at all. I pushed the boat once or twice when I was checing areas, got a good drive by look at some normally hidden structures in the back lakes furtunately didn't collect any scars for my close encounters.

There wasn't a single boat in any of the marsh areas that we fished, but the reds were spooky anyway. We found a flat in one of the lakes that had a few reds that were willing to bite and Jonathon obliged and put lures in their mouth. We saw a bunch of fish in several different areas, but the light wind and low water had the fish keeping their distance from the boat.

Headed back out here shortly for a check of a couple of other flats that I haven't looked at in a while. Couple of pics of the better red, 25.5 inches, and hopefully more to follow mid day today.

Here she is. From what I have seen so far, following this boat could get you in trouble.
