Albert and I made a last minute decision to fish the tourney today. We started in the redfish hole and they were there, but we couldn't get the big ones to stay buttoned, so we decided to try to upgrade later and go look for trout. We caught about 20 reds to start the day and only one was undersized. Unfortunately they were all cookie cutters from 21"-22".
We headed to the trout spot and there was a boat already sitting where we wanted to fish so we moved on to the next spot. We found a bunch of small trout and had a few nice ones pull off including one that Albert lost that was over 30" and at least 9 lbs and 2 that were 4-5 lbs. We decided to give the spot a rest and try to upgrade the reds. Albert found a better red at the next spot and I caught a couple more small trout and lost 2 flounder. We knew we needed to upgrade 3 of the trout so we went in search only to find more small trout.
Reds weighed in were 3.8 and 4.8 and biggest trout was 3.8 with a stringer total of 15.5 lbs.
We ended up in 5th place. All fish were caught in 4'-7' over shell or sand and almost all were caught on top. It was interesting fishing armpit to neck deep all day long!
It was a beautiful day on the water and lookin' forward to the GRS next weekend.
