I have a trip booked for tuesday evening, so had been thinking about where I was going on this trip so I went out to a regular late summer haunt to see what it was holding. I got on a shoreline and started working tops. I had a few half baked blowups with nothing connecting so I decided to make a run a few hundred yards and try another side. As I was running, I saw a huge set of blowups to my right so I pulled down and putted slowly over to the area that I saw the blowups. I knew that there was a pocket reef in this area, because I marked it several years ago but havent actually ever stopped to fish it. I was coming up to the spot and and finally noticed the placement of the reef. As i was coming up to it, I could see some fish splashing about on the downwind side of it. I decided to power pole down on the upwind side of it so I could work it over pretty good.
I was set up and placed a topwater on the downwind side and started working it back and they were all over it. I had about 5 blowups before finally hooking up with a decent 22” red. I got the red unhooked and cast back into the same spot and SLAMMMED again.. Another 21 or so … I was all smiles a this point, so what else was there to do besides keep casting and working it over.. After about 45 minutes and 30+ fish I decided it was time to leave these cookie cutters alone and go on after what I originally went looking for.. TOADS lol
I ran about 1/2 mile and found the area I originally had come to fish. The tide was ripping out, which I LOVE . Only one problem, It was ripping out so fast that there was way TOO MUCH bait in the water.. There were reds crashing here and there, and flounding making acrobatic jumps on every corner but I couldnt get them to bite anything.. Not even the secret gulp color lol.
I got a call from Capt Clint letting me know that If I didnt leave soon, I was going to be inundated with flooding rains heading my way lol, So I bailed and headed home… I must say, for 3 hours of fishing I was completely happy. I didnt find any 8 pounders like I wanted, but I will take 30 to 40 fish ANYDAY , ANYTIME lol.
ITS ON… Get out and GET YA SOME!!!!!!!!!!!
