I launched at FAT BOYS about 7:30 AM and headed to Campbell's Bayou. Sunny day, water about 57 degrees , stong incoming tide until noonish, then a standing tide, wind variable NE mainly up to 12 MPH. I fished the tide currents pictured below outside Campbell's with bait present , but no takers. I waded some of the deep inside channels standing on the shell and casting into the incoming current without result. I had hoped the presence of numerous seagulls would be a sign of fish around.

    Continued

I slowly cruised from Campbells along Virginia point looking for bait to the causeway. I then went around to the south side of South Deer Island with the intention of fishing there. I got off plane to look at the area around South Deer Island and realized how much water had been blown out of the bay. It was incredibly low. I'm still learning West Bay by boat, I have yaked it a lot, but not the north shoreline. I couldn't get back on plane , the water was shallow , so I putzed slowly west until I could get on plane. I did some drift fishing in areas where I saw pelican and gulls diving without result. I waded a cut in the intracoastal canal where seagulls were again in abundance. I caught 4-5 rat reds and one 18 " trout.

      END

Wading back to my boat , I was working a pink corky fat boy in knee deep water and hooked up a 20 " red. I was back at Fat Boys at dusk. Not a barn burner day , but not skunked either and it's always a good day being on the water and learning something new. Lawdy, I love this inshore fishing and environment. It's all good.

I did a report last weekend under the Kayak forum. I usually fish every weekend and post up... sometimes under wading or kayak besides the bay reports. I haven't had much to brag about though !!

Nice Henry!! West can get a little tough when the tide drops too far. You need to go back to the other reef that we fished. It's still holding good fish. I'm still looking for that phone call about EMB

A super detailed report Plugger! Many Thanks!!
I really liked those Pic's of the Soup area ( Campbells ), really some fine fishing most of time this time of the year. Brought back a few memories of some times with my 2 fishing buds. Hoping only a few more weeks and I'll be able to post up a report, my surgery appears to be a sucess and feeling much better!

                    Again Thanks,
                    wd

I'm glad you are on the mend and that the report provided a little lift by remembering some good times with good friends while recovering. I'm looking forward to some reports of your own in a few weeks . You must be chomping at the bit. Go get 'em.
