Had perfect conditions today, so made a late afternoon wade over shell and mud from 1' - 5'. Had the pleasure of fishing with 2 of the best fishermen I know, Maurice Estlinbaum and another buddy.
Wind was howling out of the SE from 15-25. It was misting rain most of the time. Tide was slowly moving in and the bait was plentiful. Water temps were up around 60 and the topwater bite was pretty good.
We caught 20 - 25 trout to 6 lbs(Maurice caught the biggest), with a 5 and a bunch of 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 lbers mixed in, and 1 red about 7 1/2 on tops, corkys and mirrolures. All fish released for you guys and gals to catch later.
On the last wade, I went across the gut while they stayed on the side of the reef with the boat. I caught 1 small trout and then saw 2 mullet run for their lives, so I chunked a corky in the area and twitched it once and hooked up with a trout that was making some big sweeping shakes and I could tell that she was big. She surfaced twice before shaking loose. She was definitely over 25" and fat. After about 45 min the fog rolled in and I could barely see the boat, so I headed back down the reef to cross the gut and couldn't find the shallow spot. I tried to get across and got water int he waders before backing back onto the reef and waiting for them to come pick me up. Good thing the water was warm! The fog was thick on the way in.
I will post up the pics when my buddy sends them to me. I forgot my camera and we only got a few pics because we were releasing everything as we caught them and were fishing a ways apart most of the time.

I still haven't learned to set my drag correctly. I forgot that I had tightened it up earlier and never loosened it. Fatal mistake with braid. Gotta give them all the line they want! At least I have had chances at big girls and you gotta lose some to catch some. they don't get that size by being caught.

Hey Chip, I think that your buddy sent you the pictures late last night. Nice report, sounds like it was a fun trip, wish that I could have been there..... wink, wink. Maurice is my kind of fisherman, never took that Spook off the whole afternoon!

Oh yeah, I think that I'm going to go buy an older boat like that so when I prefish no one can find me!

I did some work in his house and we hit it off well.
For those of you who don't know, Maurice is one of the original wade fishermen. He used to fish some with with Rudy Grigar (The Plugger). That man has lots of stories and it was great to be along for the ride just listening to stories about the old days.
Here are a couple of pics. The other's didn't turn out very good.

The red that "The Other Guy" caught hammered this corky!
