  • Halls Bayou 10-4-2014

It was a Bluebird day after a front with a hard north wind. I almost didn't go but it is my birthday and my son was fishing with me. We were targeting flounder using the tactic I posted a few days back and we caught flounder. However only one was big enough to keep and it was a beauty landed by my son. He also landed a keep red, trout and bass on the same right for the Halls super slam. Needless to say my son whipped up on me pretty good for my birthday........but at least he didn't rub it in too hard.

The fish will be back and biting in a few days once the clouds come back and the north winds let the tide move again.

Thanks for the report. If you don't mind me asking how deep is Halls Lake/Bayou? Specifically past the narrows. I cruised by it on my way out to the bay and my GPS chart plotter didn't have any depth information. Ive got an 18" draft with no Jack Plates. Im new to west bay and Galveston bay in general and trying to be cautious as I hear there are a fair amount of oyster reefs.

Mako, it gets tricky down next to Halls Lake and it is shallow. I generally don't go down the bayou that far so maybe someone else will give you some more details.

MakoMan1901, You can run all the way down Hall's with your boat drafting 18". Leave the Bayou and head SE staying about 100yds off the bank on the west side on a good plane and you shouldn't have any problems. Leave the lake and run out in the channel right next to the camp up on stilts staying on the South side of it to enter Chocolate.
I do it all the time in my 22 Skeeter and the only time I have had any issues were right after a hard north wind blew the water out.
