Tide: Good Incoming
Water Temp: 77 deg F
Water Clarity: Stained, sandy... <6 inches visibility
Weather: Cloudy
Wind: <10 knots, SSE
Moon: Full
I fished the SLP area with my brother yesterday morning. I wasn't expecting much with the full moon and forecast for scattered storms.
When we arrived to our usual spot, the area was void of life on the surface... no bait and no slicks... and the water clarity was awful. But, we pressed our luck anyway with topwaters tied on.
We didn't get any action for the first 30 minutes or so. Off in the distance, we saw some birds working and made our way over. That was the ticket.
The birds were feeding on baby Atlantic Cutlassfish (6-8" silver eels) and the trout were underneath them. Needless to say, we put the whooping on them even though they weren't big. We kept 17 trout since our freezers were bare... most were 16-18" and we had 4 or 5 that were in the 20-22" class. However, size doesn't matter when you catch them on top.
The attached picture is of my limit that I took back to the boat before I went back out to play catch and release.
