I was fishing around the ICW and didnt catch much, a few 15-20in trout and rat reds all on topwaters.
1) over the 4 hour perioud had a couple of HUGE blowups like I have never seen. I would give the topwater a little pull and the water started to churn all around it. Let it sit there... same thing and then BAM... but nothing. That is until the last cast... BAM...ZIIIIIIIINNNNGGGG I tightened the drag almost all the way to stop spooling. I thought !@)#(@ YEA!! Got it to the boat and then pulled... 15 minutes later (no exageration) there it was... a Fng Gafftop... it was HUGE 30" and bent my ugly stick in half. Needless to say I was, well, let down. Have you guys ever heard/had this happen to you?
2) Left the ICW at greens cut and to my surprise, saw a pod of 6 bottle nosed dolphins on the bay side almost stuck in 2.5-3ft of water. I slowed down to check it out and they started to follow me at 4mph. I figured they were stuck because they were going down and coming back for air every second and swimming around in circles aimlessly for 20 minutes. Going on the hunch they were following me as if I were guiding them to deeper waters, I drove back into the ICW with them on the left and right side of my boat. Got into the deep water and they jumped around a bit and then took off.
Like I said... weird day of fishing
