    8/29 West Bay

    Hit shoreline with shrimp about 8 am. Caught a few dinks and 3 keepers and got spooled on something I never got to even see-could not turn it or slow it down-I think it was a red, but not sure-just a hard steady pull until last loops and kapow-spooled. Same thing almost happened Saturday eve at same spot, but I didn't want to lose another spool of line, so I thumbed it and line broke near hook. Total keeper trout for Saturday was 6-no biggies, two lost fish. Beats working. Water was perfect. Finder showed 86.9 degrees.

        Thanks for the report Robalo..I'm thinking Jack, I had a simliar thing happend to me at the pass early this summer but it bent my hooks and pulled off.

          It didn't move fast like a jack and bait wasn't hanging on bottom, so not a ray. I've caught quite a few Crevalle, and they go fast -this thing just pulled like a freight train and never turned any direction-not sure what it was and coulda been a crevalle. Also of interest, caught two mangrove snappers and a pompano at same spot.

            After reading another post made me think you could have hooked a large tripletail...I have never hooked up with one so have no idea how they fight but his post yesterday made me think of that...

              Dont think it would be a jack, anytime i hooked one in shallow water they do 90 to nothing when they spool you or you break em off.
