Woke up to some cooler temps this morning so I decided to give Highlands Bayou a try. Launched my kayak at Louis Bait Camp just before sunrise and paddled to the railroad bridge just before entering into Jones Lake. The tide was starting to go out when I anchored near the bridge and the outgoing current remained slow and steady all morning. I used my typical flounder fishing setup, the red/white H&H curly tails tipped with frozen finger mullet on a 1/4 oz jighead.
The bait was plentiful. The pelicans were constantly dive bombing the mullet alongside my kayak. Flounder were concentrated along the edges of the boat channel and in between the railroad trestle pilings. I was hoping for some big flounder, since today's conditions were almost exactly the same as last year around this time (caught several 6-8 pounders last year in Highlands Bayou). All of the flounder I caught today were small, between 16"-18". After I picked up a limit, I tried a couple other spots that included drains, cuts, and along the edges of the spartina grass in the marsh. Each area produced some flounder, but nothing big.

Can't wait until we get a really good cold snap. I'm ready to start catching a bunch of saddle blankets!
