6/22: Quick paddle

Launched at the old KOA at 5p. Paddled to Bird Island to look around. Wind was blowing SE, tide was way high and starting to fall. Water was sandy green but looked pretty good coming off all that east wind this week.

Fished the windblown shore of Mud Island and caught two trout and a rat red. Lost a flounder. All released, well except the hard head, he didn't make it. All caught on a brownish hackberry hustler.

Got back in around dark. Stopped and had a cold beer at the sand bar. Glad to get out.

How long is the paddle out to the island?

With a light or following wind, takes me about 30m to get to Bird Island. I've come back across Cold Pass in a stiff head wind and it can take twice that.
