  • Little bit different February than normal ...

The fish seem more scattered than usual for this time of year, I suppose lack of fresh inflow and milder than normal temps are to blame. But ... I gotta say, I'm loving that wind. Picked up a couple dozen more feeches playing hooky from work early last week on the windward shoreline. 'Bout a 2:1 ration of trout to redfish, this big ole girl being the best lookin' one. We had a few trout to 23" but ... who likes dead fish pics anyway ... this ole girl swam off the wiser. 27" and 9lbs.

We're still catching them on tails in 5" color patterns. The more realistica baits have been working really well, especially the ones that NO one CARRIES anymore ... uuuuugh. I tried throwing those Mirro-lure soft plastic rat-tail mullet imitations, but the bite had already shut off ... they just look feechy to me ... anyone had any luck with these things ... ? There as close as I can find to my discontinued favorites ...

No sir, the Berkley Powerbait Saltwater Jerkshad - it's got a holographic eye, looks amazing. I've found a few places that still sell them online (Bass Pro for one), but, dayum do I hate thinking I'm going to have to buy a lifetime supply of those things ...

the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

Ha ... ! Thanks man ... that ought to tell you a pretty close proximity to where I'm fishing. The reservoirs that feed the rivers that feed the bays on the Upper coast are still below capacity, meaning the inflow into the bays is a fraction of what it normally is this time of year - despite the recent rain events. Look at the Sabine and the Nueces and even the Trinity. Despite the huge burden of fresh we got 10 days ago, the bays are SALTY. Promise ...
