  • West bay therapy

I got out this mid morning for the first time in a long time by myself. My ace netter and soulmate had back surgery three weeks ago and I sure missed her company. I put in at Louis and ran out across Jones into West Bay. I drifted all water from North deer to the spoil at Greens from the old ICW to Mecoms reefs. The water was slighty off color with that perfect little chop and I could not find any bait at all. I saw one mullet jump and one commarant dive from about 10 til 3. I love soft plastics and threw every color in the box picking up one small flounder on root beer/cool tip and 22" red drum on a 52M28 mirrolure right at the boat. Had to paddle push through the cut back into Icw as the tide had moved out and it was time for me tomove too. Released both fish and thought heckofa trout fishing trip.

Yeah retirement allows me to pick my days. I like to go on those ice cream condition days but getting out after 3 weeks of cabin fever was worth it. As far as moving every 5 minutes, I like to drift about 100 yards depending on wind velocity and then crank up,move over 30-40 yards and start another drift. I know from fishing that area this time of year patience and elimination of water pays off more times than not. I didn't see any bait in Jones either, might have should fished the south shorelineof the island. Never know. No regrets.
