Marsh Mystery

The arrival of fall begets many changes for anglers on the Texas coast. Artic blasts bring relief from the scorching summer heat, but more importantly, the objects of our fascination begin to fatten up for winter when food sources will be scarce and water temps are too low to warrant any wasted movements. Creatures of sizes begin their yearly rituals preparing themselves for the tough times ahead. What does this mean to us fisherman? Cooler water and air temps, baitfish hatches, gorging fish, but most notably superb fishing.

Didn't land that flounder. I accidentally ran over it and it spooked several times before it settled at that spot in a few inches of water on the shoreline. I tried throwing lures and flies at it. I even hit it on the head a few times with my lure and it never moved, almost as if it was playing dead. I got my camera out and start taking pics. It sat on that shoreline for 30 mintues before it spooked off when I nudged it with the end of my rod. If it had been October I would have tried gigging it with my stake-out stick.

I remember that day years ago. I was barely learning how to throw lures and kayak fish. That's still the only time I've ever fished that spot and I still have the same yak. You're right I've come along way and my passion for the pastime we all love has continually grown.
