  • Two Point Five Hours- 10/24/11 Report

Uber invited a friend along today and we went out again around 4 ish. Winds were light and not much a factor. Visibility was spotty, but mostly dirty. We set up for our first drift and near the end I saw the bronze back of a redfish. Unfortunately, we drifted by before I could get a shot at it but Uber's friend made a cast with a spinner bait rigged with morning glory gulp and POW! Drag went off and the battle was on. It was a fat 22ish inch red. We were about to reset but some bozos drove through the area and we didn't want to wait 15 minutes for the fish to calm down. I actually thank them for that.

We moved into the marshes and found a nice drain with the incoming tide. There was bait being busted everywhere! We were a bit further away from the drain then we would have liked but it was still manageable. I was throwing a pink back rattle-trap. A few casts in, my bait landed in the frothing water of a fish busting bait. I reeled up the slack, felt some weight, set the hook and was rewarded with a head shake and a trout flying through the water. FISH ON! A short battle and he came to the boat...spit the hook. Tried again. Same situation; my bait hit the water, and it was an immediate hook up! But again, the trout spit the hook! The trout hit the back end of the rattle trap. By now, Cameron (Uber's friend) was using the TTF MTK in morning glory. That was the ticket. Uber and Cameron started boating nice trout. With the fleeing bait fish, I could only think one word- topwater.

I tied on a chartreuse/ white and casted out. With an erratic retrieve...POP! Down goes the spook and FISH ON! Boated a solid trout. Cameron switched to a chartreuse spook and hooked up on the trout as well. Uber...well...he couldn't get one.

By now it was getting darker. The tops stopped working so Uber switched back to a TTF MTK in morning glory, Cameron went to the spinner with a morning glory gulp and I went to my favorite soft plastic the TTF Hackberry in...morning glory. Cameron was hoping for another red..but instead he caught two nice flatties back to back. One of them was right after the spinner hit the water. Same with my I tossed out my hackberry in the foaming water and was rewarded with some weight that just screamed "hook set." I caught a nice flattie as well. It was an awesome day. The only reason why we left was because the darned skeeters came out. I was in some long sleeve/pants so I was somewhat protected. Cameron and Uber decided to go Bear Grylls style and put mud on themselves...what good that did em.

What a day! Cameron had a slam, I had a few nice trout and a flounder and Uber had a few trout, a rat red but no flounder.

Yep! But really, the area you were in is very good. The reds like it up there.

I felt like you buoy...had to drive the young guns around and let em steal all the money spots in the boat and all the glory hahahahaha....jk. At one point though I had to turn the boat around because I was on the receiving end of a nest of mosquitos and a big rock in my way lol...I wouldn't have it any other way you need to come out with us on weds!!!!!!! I made Jhua drive back lmao. Cameron outfished us both with the gulp spinner things lethal on flatties too some days it goes that way weird baits work i.e. the rat L trap.

With that said...morning glory/chartreuse anything was the go to in that off colored water.
