I keep saying this because it's true. Yesterday we had limits in tops by 8:30-9:00 over sand and shell in 2'-5' of water. Good water movement and tons of mullet.
This morning the tide was higher and not near the bait was showing. Before daylight I had a bad backlash on about my 6th cast, and didn't bring my headlight, so I walked back over to the boat and grabbed my other rod. Meanwhile my fishing partner has already caught and release two fish......and that continued!
I couldn't even get a whiff and when I did get a blow-up I didn't hookup. It happens, but it's always frustrating when you can't get **** going and your friends are whacking fish. Meanwhile, my buddy has caught and released probably six or seven trout. I decided to walk back to the boat and fix my other reel. It wasn't a bad backlash and I was right back in the water. First cast walking the other way, I finally caught a fat 20" trout. (I should note here that my buddy is still catching a few trout on top 50 yards away.)
Then I switched to a jig & paddle tail BA. First cast and I'm hooked when it hits the water. These are better fish too 3#-4#. I caught a couple more and decided a Corky Devil prl/blk back would work better. It did. I was stroking 'em pretty good for a while and about 9:30 we came in.
No fish kept today but here's a pic from yesterday morning.
