We put in around 5:45 and made it out to our first spot about 6:10 or so. It was still dark and it was my first time wading where you cant see much. Thank god for the full moon. Started out throwing tops. Had one good blow up while fishing partner Neil strung first trout just at daybreak. Wind was light and water was pretty clean. Neil was walking faster than I was as usual and my buddy Trey was off to the left of us getting a few blowups here and there stringing one keeper. Neil ends up stringing 2 more trout as he gets out to this buoy. I end up catching up and what do I start to catch...Nothing but sand trout, all released. After doing that for about 45 we change spots towards Chocolate. We start working a shoreline with the wind picking up out of the south, by the way the grass is still bad in some areas. I switched to a bone and red face super spook jr (Santa Claus). Picked up 3 reds that were all 18-19 in. Then I end up catching 2 piggy perch that were the same size as the top water I was throwing. Worked our way down and they stopped biting. Last spot we went to the wind was howling. By this time I thing I am snake bit cause I am getting shut out by my buddies. Everybody has fish in the box but me. Everything I caught was undersized. Neil said that this spot was a descent to good redfish spot so I put on a strawberry and white red killer by TTF. A few casts in boom another redfish. This one is pulling drag pretty good but also 19 in. End up catching another a few casts later that was the same.

Last but not least I finally catch a slot right at 20.5 in. WTF. All that and my last fish of the day is a keeper. Not the best day but you can't beat a day on the water giving it the full grind with good people.
I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself. A small baby bird will fall frozen, dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself...

Good report, I had the same thing yesterday in Chocolate, managed to bring home a flounder. Today I walked in at Christmas (across from the Condos) and got into a bunch of short biting flounder. They bit the tail off of 8-9 Gulps, so I switched to shorter ones and finally managed to box 2 flounder and throw back a 18" red. After about 8:30 when the wind picked up, there were long streaks of green/ brownish water, the fish were hitting right on the edges between greenish/ brownish water (all the water was pretty clear, but you could see the edges just fine.)

Seemed as if we fished most of the N shoreline that didn't have grass and a few spots that did.

Great report. I know it can be frustrating to watch your buddies put fish in the box while you end up with the short ones. Those are the times that I think about the about the trips when I used to pray for a bite. You'll get 'em next time and your buddies will feel the pain.

Great report-good info and detail-sometimes they are somewhere else but a pull on the line beats a skunk anyday and I've had my share of skunk days. WTG and grinding it out.

Thanks for the report, my last trip in was was somewhat of a grind. I say this every year but I have never been so ready for COOLER weather and to jump in the waders.
