  • West Bay - 7/31

We made it to the far west shoreline (north of mud cut) of West Bay by 6am sunday morning. This was a new area for me and I was hoping to find a few reds. Fished around some old house pilings and picked up a couple of small trout. Didnt drift much there like I wanted because I didnt want to disturb the waders that where there before me. Made a short southeast run over to some metal structure sticking out of the water that a buddy told me to try. Circled it a few times and didnt get a single hit. Made a few drifts in oyster lake and also struck out there. Ran over to Cold Pass to fish some deep water. By this time, I just wanted to catch something since I had a friend with me that had never fished saltwater before. We sunk some shrimp on the bottom and played with sheephead and small drum for an hour or so. It started getting pretty hot so we called it day.

Overall, I am starting to get very frustrated. I was catching some good fish earlier in the summer/spring but have struck out the last several trips. Guess I am not adapting to the heat. I still got alot to learn. Stopped at Whataburger on the way home for a patty melt. That calmed my frustrations quite a bit lol

Thanks for the report! Better luck next time! Maybe it has to do with the influx of fresh water for the trout...just a guess.

Summertime fishing can be frustrating.....gotta keep at it! Better than being at work.

You got that right. As frustrated as it was, I would so rather be back out there today.
