A couple friends and I put in the yaks at 8 mile and paddled around looking for fish. Lots of bait around but not much happening. Right before dark I noticed some birds working so I paddled over and managed to pick up a 16 in. speck w/ a pink skitterwalk. Set up for another drift and foul hooked a 12 in. mullet. I've never caught a mullet before on anything so I'm not sure if he slapped at it and hooked himself or what. We paddled back soon after.

hooked mullet in the mouth several times on topwaters, i heard they will hit a topwater trying to "kill it" not eat it, to keep predator fish from coming around due to the commotion... makes sense, but no idea if this is correct reason or not...
Think like a fish no matter how weird it gets…
