  • Old report 5/21 Tournament

Well, GSB and I got our daughters together for another fishing adventure. The last time the kids did really well and we were hoping for a repeat.
I made the decision to fish West and started off in Hoeckers Cove. We got set up and the kids started doing the ritual "shrimp gettin" routine. LOL! We had one dip net and two sets of hands reaching for it. That went over really well and the games began....I really don't know what all was said, but there was surely more discussion about who's turn it was to hold the net than GSB or I could care about. A rod went down and my girl starts cranking. I can hear the Mighty Shakespear grinding and all I could do was hope it held up to boat the fish. It did and we had our first STINGRAY of the day. We left after the bite slowed, cough, cough and the heron stalking us was fed a hefty portion of our bait. Over to Greens Lake and we set up in one of the many drains in search of a redfish or two. Well, after more very loud and continuous discussions of who's turn it was to hold the net....my girls rod is dragging across the floor and out of the boat it goes! It floats right up against the grass and starts moving down the drain. The Valiant GSB jumps out of the boat in his stingray proof flip-flops and bows up on a drag screaming red. SWEET! I get the other rods up and start heading his way with the trolling motor. I get there and his red has somehow transformed itself into another STINGRAY? Doh! You never know though right? We have our laughs and quickly get the rods back out for the girls. Well, after GSB fixes all of the rods that I tangled up trolling with the lines out. Yeah, dumbarse me!
Then it happens, his girl hooks up and lands what would be our only keeper of the day. A palm sized croaker that fit perfectly into the little bucket of shrimp the girls were playing with. Now this brought a whole new level of conversation and arguing to the table. We now had not only one net to share, but only one fish to pet. LOL! We decided to call it a day and head to the event and it was a great idea. I sure hated to tell GSB that we didn't have that beauty of a croaker to turn in. You see, his kiddo saw that it was dying and decided to let it go so that it could grow up. Cool Kid!
We were fed fried fish, hush puppies, and fries at the event. The kids all won hats and we were given T-Shirts to boot. I have to say this was a great time for a great cause and I'm looking forward to next year. Maybe GSB can pick the spots next time..LOL!
