As promised I made myself go to West bay only this weekend adn give it a try. Well to put a time frame on things the county fair was goin strong so there was no daylight wades being made
So late Sat evening I hit the coves with a buddy and slid through the geotubes (btw is it illegal to walk on them etc?) and found lots of bait between the tubes and the grass. Had a few short strikes but no serious takers for the first 90 min or so. Then my buddy hooked up on a red opposite the grass from me. I made my way around to his side of the grass and we proceeded up that side of the grass with no more luck to speak of. We heard there was spaghetti goin on at the house so back to the boat and home to said dinner.
Sunday I added one more knucklehead to the equation but we managed to get a little earlier start. Made our way a little further to the southwest than the day before to a larger grass patch out in the middle of a cove. Stuck the power pole and all 3 of us pile out and decide to split up. I would go right, the goobers would go left. 20 steps from the boat throwing to a point reel sings and heads-a-shakin a red comes to the net. ALright I didnt get skunked today. Next cast THUMP. A little drag playin and up comes a nice little flounder. By the time I get him off the hook it is suddenly real crowded on my side of the grass
. We continue the wade to no avail for another hour or so donating jigheads to carpeted bottom of the bay the whole way. That gets old so we trade up for some hardware (spooks) and another 30 goes by with nuthin. So I make my way back to the boat as the sun finally burns off all the haze ovc etc. I jump a bunch of bluewings and knucklehead#1 catches a nice speck on a spook jr while Im walkin back to the panga.
We head back to where we were Sat evening because I just couldnt stop thinking about all the bait that was in there. We start our wade just where we ended it the day before. Everyone gets in and we are all on right away dang near still in the panga. Cool. We moved down a tad more to where a wash was comin through the tubes and it was on like kong till dark. We caught somewhere between 10-15 reds and 3 specks, one of which was real nice, but we didnt like it so we dumped it out of the net while trying to take its picture
.
All in all a succesfull weekend and a great way to end a Sunday afternoon. Sorry for
the long read guys but this is my first report so I had to make it thought fulled .
Thanks for reading and Im ready to go at 6 this evening,
Cody
