Haven't taken my boat out in a while so I took my neighbor out this am to play in the wind. I start and run the boat 2-3 time/mo and ran it last week so I was very surprised when I got to the ramp, turned the key and only heard "click". Fortunately I have a little old boat with an old 30hp evinrude and it is pretty easy to pull start. Got it running and off we went. Fished some lights for a while and had 2 big fish break off, Steve lost one at the boat and we missed a bunch. Lots of bait in the lights. one of the 2 I had break off broke my Norton Clip which I have never had happen.
Had no tide moving until about 9am so we decided work a windy are so we would have some water movement. I don't think we could have found any areas without wind anyway with it blowing 15-20 SSW.
We got to the spot and jumped out, waded over about 25 yards and planted the feet. We sat there for 2 hours and caught 4 trout 17"-20", missed a few and lost a few. I caught one on plastic, 2 on She Dogs and one on a waker. I lost 2 more good ones on top also.
I needed a red for the grill so I headed for the grass and put on a Skitter Jr.. Waded about a half mile and finally connected with a nice 25"er. Kept on going for about another half mile and didn't get another blow up, so decided to fish back out in the middle of the cove which was a bad idea since the tide had come back in about a foot by then. Steve is a little short guy at only about 6' 2" and started screaming form about 30yds behind me.......something about getting water in his waders. I told him to head to the shoreline where it is shallower and I kept going. When I looked back he was almost shoulder deep and strugglin to stay as dry as possible bouncin on his tiptoes. I finally found some water that was just deep enough that the 2' waves were just above the top of my waders with me on my tiptoes, so we both ended up getting pretty wet. Fortunately the sun finally came out about that time so it finally got over 70 degrees and it wasn't too bad. Got back to the boat and ran around a little looking for any signs of life but the wind had picked up to about 25 SSE and I didn't feel like getting beat up so we headed back in.
It was nice to catch a few fish and see them really hammer the tops even though the water temp was only 67 degrees. Next time I may let Steve catch a fish. He had a tough day.
