I came down to the island Thursday night to get a head start on my weekend. Decided to fish Friday and got to the Sea Isle Marina around 1:00. Headed out towards Greens...water temp reading was 45! Puttered around there and nothing...Worked lots of areas heading towards the pass as I figured water would be warmer down there. Got to SLP area right about the tide change. Water was up to balmy 49.5. Couldn't catch a cold let a long a fish for a while then in this one spot it turned on. Weird fishing though. I lost count of the number of flounder I caught all in about an area no bigger than 20 square feet. I know that there are some flounder experts here on the sight so I figured I'd ask here...I always thought flounder were pretty territorial. I could have stayed there and caught them all night long as they were stacked up that thick. Is it just because they are juveniles?
Another funny thing is that beyond the "flounder" spot by fifteen feet or so was a pod of rat reds who also would NOT leave the area. I started laughing as I would call my shot (to my dog) flounder or red, cast to that area, and BAM...there it was. Again, all fish but one flounder were not keepers. One of the flounder went 16. I placed it in the livewell as I did not want to keep just one and as I was ready to go released it. My dog Claire was NOT happy about that as she just
sat and stared at the fish and stare back at me as if to say "why did you do that?"
Went back the next afternoon with Mark and our wives just to se
e if they were still there...YUP.
I have never seen the flounder stacked up like this so yeah the post is a fishing report with some flattie pics
but also curious about the behavior...
