Since I had the boat in storage here in Houston, decided to fish the old spots on the North end of the bay today. Had a new trailer built a few months ago by TexAll up in Conroe and this was the first time out with it.., I am impressed on how well it handled. Ty did a great job setting the trailer up for the boat last week. Now for the fishing..., Pat and I hit the water from McBrides around sun up and ran out with flat, greenish water to my first spot. Fished about 45 minutes without a bite. Decided to go check out some well heads further East and at the first one ( and only one )
I had 2 solid Specs on 2 casts using a Big Eye, Cajun Pepper. Didn't take Pat long to change baits and the fun was on. Over the next hour, we caught 27 Specs, kept 5 for Pat's son and released the rest for another day. We would have caught more but Pat got hooked up on a Jack that took him 40 minutes to land on 10lb line and the expert help from me using the the IPilot to keep him from losing all in line:-) and netting the beast.
.
After releasing the fish ( about a half mile from where it hit), headed back over to the spot and picked up a couple of dinks as the bite had died. Fired up the motor and headed back to the launch.., nice being able to run across the bay at 45-50 plus the air movement helped cool us down. Great day fishing with a good friend, boat ran great, trailer unloaded/loaded and pulled great, and the catching was Hot!
