  • Nothing To Lose (Upper G Bay)

Me and Ryan planned to fish this morning but he overslept. I left home at 7 to very high NW winds. I tried one spot that is good with those winds but it was a bust. Only took my fifteen minutes to realize I needed deeper water. I tried an old spot that was over ten feet but tide was too strong. What to do? Heck if I know. Shallow water that's too deep to wade but also adjacent to 10+ ft channel. But where? Ryan and I fished it once but never caught a thing. Not me at least. I grew up fishing this area back when I used bait and I remember these conditions were always good for there. So I pull up and walk 10 ft before its too deep to go any further.

I started with a corky nothingz with 1/8 ounce head and immediately got bit. And bit and bit but no fish. I'm thinking what's going on? An I such a rookie that I don't know if its a rock or a fish? Well one more cast produced a very hard bite but still no fish to show. Short striking. I switch to a freshwater jerk minnow on a 1/16 ounce head and immediately hooked up. Fishing in 6-7" of water very slow produced some very solid trout. I caught over 40 trout and released two over 25". Pics to come. Very good day.

Nice report. I figured they would eat today, since I went yesterday.

Nicely done figuring out game plans that paid off with better than good results . Elmer Fudd might have to go back to hunting wabits instead of fishing .

Nice fish. Smart move going to the 1/16 ounce jig head with the water temp so cold.
