Went back out to the Galveston Ship Channel to see if the flounder were still hanging around. The weather was really nasty in the morning, so I slept in and got to my spot around 10 AM. Tide was out and the wind was kicking all day. The only thing I had going for me was an incoming tide in the afternoon.
After a couple hours of searching, I found some flounder that were hanging around heavy bottom structure in water depth of about 4 feet. My first fish was caught by jigging a red and white H&H curly tail tipped with a pearl white Gulp pogy. But after a few more casts, I kept getting snagged on rocks out there. I had to cast 50 feet to reach the small area were the fish were holding. So, I switched over to a popping cork setup with a Bomber 3.5" shrimp in white and green rigged about 4 feet below the cork. It was fun working the popping cork just like I would with live bait and feeling the flounder strike. After the strike, the cork would slowly submerge a inch or two below the water's surface.
Using this setup, I managed to pick up a limit of flounder from 16" to 19". Didn't catch any big ones today, but there may be some big ones feeding once the conditions settle. All of the fish I caught today were covered with dozens of some type of sea lice. I have a feeling that the spring flounder run is going to be awesome this year.

Happy New Years!
