Cameron and I made an afternoon run today. Stayed around the Seabrook area. The last few weeks we've been keying in on balls of shad that surface. Casting to them accounted for most of our fish. It took us a while to find them, but once we did, it was on! Had a few reds and some nice flounder. Eventually we started focusing on shad being pushed into small grass pockets. Cameron was in the zone from the get go with all his practice from Bastrop. On the other hand, I just never got into the groove. Cameron had a nice 6-7 lb red on and I put down my rod to take video...and there goes my rod. After landing the fish, we looked for it but to no avail. At another pocket I made a cast to a pier piling and felt the telltale bite of a flounder. After a short count, I gave it a sharp hookset and the fight was on! Brought it to the boat...and it let go. Today was just not my day! We may give it another whirl later in the week.
