Pat and I made it to McBride Launch around noon to find the fog still hanging around. Launch the boat and slowly made our way to the first spot and fished about 20 minutes without a bump. Fog starts lifting a little and I made a run further up North with a plan on fishing nothing but Corkys (up until a couple of weeks ago I had never caught a fish on them but had a great day and wanted to try them again). First drift I picked up a nice Spec on an Original and thought today would be another good day to try. I fished hard for the next couple of hours using Fat Boys, Devils and Originals with only 1 bump but had made up my mind that I would stay with it. During this time Pat, using Red Shad with paddle tail starts kicking my butt! He C&R'd 2 Specs at 24", 1 at 22" and a couple 20's along with 2 Rat Reds and 2 Flounder. He kept asking didn't I want to try his bait and I said no, I am sticking to my plan (but it was pi$$ing me off
). After another nice Spec I said enough with the PLAN and switched to a Brown Devil Eye in Copper/Char and started my share of C&R. Over the last hour, I had 4 nice Specs, 1 Red and a Flounder..., but still got my butt whopped for the day..., makes a long ride back to storage (folks that know Pat will understand).
Still another great day on the water with a good fishing friend, only saw 1 other boat, water improving and the boat ran great (Bryan, can't wait to get the Powerpole...,it would have come in handy today!)
As I am typing this, Pat just called and said let's go again. Another friend of ours wants to get out of the office..., retirement is good!
