  • Reds on the Bulkheads- 1/6/12

Headed out at 3 PM with my uncle to do a short run. We tried the spots that I fished with Cameron a few days back but nothing. While the winds were light, the tide was way out and wouldn't come in. Also, I still haven't established any sort of pattern the last month or so and the uncharacteristically warm weather didn't do much to help me find fish. In a nutshell, i'm stuck between following a fall pattern and looking for a winter pattern. Anyhow, we made our way to some flipping mullet near some bulkheads. Trolling down the bulkheads we threw the TTF Hackberry in morning glory and the TTF MTK in morning glory. I ended up catching two reds between 24-26 focusing on points in the bulkheads and slowly hopping them on the bottom. My uncle caught a nice 18 inch trout doing the same thing. Hopefully I can establish a pattern soon or it is going to be a long next few months.

I think it's been 3 weeks, but it was almost 2 months before that! Life's been crazy busy!

I remember doing that at our bay house in West Bay. My uncle would give us some dead shrimp, some small hooks, and some line and tell us to keep only the piggy perch. We would sit on the boat dock and catch'em all day and put them in the bait bucket. The next day he would take us with him in a canoe and post up at the mouth of our canal and bite their tails (yes actually bite them) and then toss them over to each side and the middle of the channel. When he hooked up he held onto us and we reeled em in. Good times.

One time we had like 5 realy big reds on a stringer . Some guy where coming by just as I had a nice red on . I told them I had a good fish . They mumbled under their voice to each other "probably the only good fish in the canal " . Little did they know . And I did it all the time . G340 will tell you I've taken him to the marshs next to the freeway in the morning , while folks were throwing cast nets to catchbait to chase fish al over the bay . It's unbelievable how much fuel is burned while passing quality fish .
No fish in the canal Paul... Shut up
