Family Fishing Clinic
Anglers wanting to learn how to catch more fish from the surf to the seas should consider stopping by Fishing Tackle Unlimited (FTU), 12800 Gulf Freeway in Houston Sat. June 26. From 10 a.m.-6 p.m Texas Fish & Game (TFG) magazine and FTU will host a free family fishing clinic.
The event will include seminars by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department who will address the benefits of hatcheries to our coastal fisheries. Capt. Mike Holmes will talk trolling strategies for summer pelagics. Bryan Treadway will discuss Bank and Small Boat Access for West Galveston Bay and TF&G Executive Editor Chester Moore will speak on gear and strategies for landbound anglers.
In addition to the seminars there will be an all-day casting competition for the kiddos and booths set up for anglers as well as booths to help you learn more about surf fishing, tackle selection, flounder fishing and much more. There will also be kayak and fly fishing demonstrations, Moore said.
In addition throughout the day the public will have full access to mini clinics set up around the facility. Expert surf fisherman Marcus Heflin will have his impressive setup of surf fishing gear and will help people learn to fish our beaches on a budget. He will go over gear and give you fishing tips for sharks, bull reds, speckled trout and everything else that roams Texas beaches.
This is geared toward anyone with an interest in enhancing his or her angling opportunities and will be very kid friendly. We will have prizes, refreshments and drawings throughout the day. We have designed several of our clinics to meet scout fishing merit requirements and look forward to meeting with young and old alike, Moore said.
