The insurance adjuster called today . He'll go see the boat . I mentioned the cracked hull and he said the stringer in other cases had been damaged by gasoline . The stringer is foam filled , I think he said , and the gas dissolves it weakening the hull resulting in a crack . He said the design is flawed allowing an electrolysis effect to occur . I haven't seen it myself . He said WESTSIDE FIBERGLASS REPAIR does good work .

    Henry,
Did you see any signs of an anode or anode system attached to the gas tank ?

Repairs are on hold for insurance viewing and maybe Dargel . Hopefully the new crack in the hull may fall under my 10 year hull warranty . I'm slowly bleeding out .

My boat is at WESTSIDE FIBERGLASS REPAIRS , Katy , Richard Peckenpaugh Sr . Tank is out , riddled with holes . One 3 inch hole . A crack was found in the hull . I'm told the gas eroded the fiberglass . My insurance guy will look at it but talking with them my policy doesn't cover electrolysis , defects , erosion and such . Dargel who bought Explorer is being approached . My insurance company was familiar with the Explorer tank leakage problems already . I was invited to go look at my boat .

they didn't say who? I know one of the mechanics there quit to start his own shop here in town. I'd trust him before I'd trust kroll's. Hell, I would have went to Sport Marine in richmond and got them to give an estimate while you were here. They do top notch work.

I was told yesterday that it would be 2 1/2 to 3 weeks for the repairs . Pictures are to be taken of the work progress and forwarded to me .

Thanks for the well wishes BOUNYHUNTER and the alternate tank placement idea YANKEE . But , dang , ROBALO , you almost make me feel lucky and that I'm getting off easy . I'll talk to Krolls about the tank coating/ insulation . Thank you for your advice . I guess it could always be worse than it is no matter what the situation . I could have been wailing down the intracoastal and had an explosion and fire . I'm thankful it's just money instead of my life or 3 rd degree burns . I'm going to stop whining about it and be grateful .

I had the same thing happen to mine...Cobia 174.... tank leak, no access, was going to have to cut through the deck, etc. Instead I moved my trolling motor bateries up front(easy) and bought a tank online, put it under the console like a lot of CCs have. A bit of work but for about $300 I have an entirely new fuel system. I was able to get 28 gal tank in with some fiddling.
