    i was kidding about cognates being Latin . I looked it up . Its derived from the Latin word cognatus meaning blood relatives. Cognates are words that have the same etymological origin. I had to look up etymological also . So it means words that have a common root word from the past .

    So , Bruce evidently was heavy into the scotch.
