I went down and tried Drum Bay again from about 6-7:30; two minor flounder hits and that was it. I bored quickly and since I noticed (when I came over the surfside bridge that the water color of the surf was fishable all the way to the beach but still pretty rough, I decided to run down the beach to the bulkeads at the point of Treasure Island near the pass thinking that with an East wave direction maybe to find a little protected water near the corner of the bulkheads. When I got there, I found the wave direction to be more SE and the water there was rough too. I decided to give it a try and went out to the first bar and cast toward the bulkhead and toward the second gut until dark. I had no hits and even on that bar was getting rocked pretty good by the waves (between waist and chest) . There was another guy out there on the 2nd bar getting beat to death. I figured he was either crazy or had some fish. Right at dark he came in and sure enough he had a spec. We talked a few minutes and he wasn't crazy, just a determined surf veteran from League City. As I stated earlier, the water was a fishable color along the entire length of Follet's Island (from the Surfside Jetty to SLP). When I rolled back over the bridge at 9 the winds were very light from the East. If the winds hold as predicted (light east) through the night, with the strong incoming tide of the wee hours, cresting at close to 9 AM tomorrow at the pass, the water should be beautiful providing the surf lays a little over night. If I didn't have to work early in the morning, I would definitely give it a try at first light tomorrow.
